“Need You Now” is one of the country group Lady A’s most popular and well loved songs. Released in 2009, it was the lead single from their second studio album of the same name, which was eventually released in January 2010 through Capitol Nashville and Parlophone records.
“Need You Now” sees Lady A reminiscing of a past love, with the memories bringing back sadness and pain. The chorus sees Lady A longing to ring their ex after drinking and getting drunk. One of the lead singers and founding member Charles Kelley spoke to Billboard about the song’s success in not only the country genre, but crossing over to pop:
“It definitely surprised us all. We realize that the majority of our songs probably won’t have that kind of cross-genre appeal; it just happens to be the appeal of this song. We’re not going anywhere. We’re country musicians, we write country songs.”

The music video for “Need You Now” was released on Lady A’s YouTube channel on the 28th January 2011. Directed by David McClister, the video shows the members of Lady A singing the track in hotel rooms and hotel corridors, drinking from flasks, until they are ultimately united with a lover – whether it is the person they are referring to in the song is unclear. As of mid-January 2022, the video has a total of over 486.8 million views with 2.5 million likes.
The song alone earned the group over four Grammy Awards in 2011, and is certified 3x Platinum in Australia, Platinum in New Zealand, Sweden and the UK, Gold in Denmark and 9x Platinum in the US.
