Lose You To Love Me

Selena Gomez

Album Lose You To Love Me (Single)

“Lose You To Love Me” is American singer/songwriter/actress Selena Gomez’s lead single of her upcoming third album, which is due to be released in 2020.

“Lose You To Love Me” was written by Gomez, fellow singer-songwriter Julia Michaels (who is also a good friend of Gomez), Justin Tranter, Mattias Larson and Robert Fredriksson. As the title suggests, it is about losing a lover in order to find yourself, and carries a very choir-like sound throughout. This was also Gomez’s first time working with FINNEAS, a music producer, actor and musician (famously known for his production on sister Billie Eilish’s work). Julia Michaels also took to Twitter to defend Gomez’s song writing capability on the 21st October 2019 when a fan questioned her involvement in the track: “I can actually 100% say that selena is VERY much a songwriter. Coming from someone that has written with her multiple times. Please don’t comment on things you know nothing about. It’s extremely rude.” Gomez has subtly confirmed in interviews that the track is an ode to her almost 10 year on-and-off relationship with musician Justin Bieber, who is now married. It is the most pre-saved Spotify track in 24 hours – in all of Spotify history. “Lose You to Love Me” has received positive responses from fans and music publications alike.

The music video was released on the 23rd October (same day as the track itself), and was directed by Sophie Muller and filmed on an iPhone 11 Pro. It is shot in black and white, and features Gomez singing straight into the camera, almost as a sort of confessional. In the comment section of the video on YouTube, Gomez commented: “This song was inspired by many things that have happened in my life since releasing my last album. I want people to feel hope and to know you will come out the other side stronger and a better version of yourself.” As of the end of October, the video has almost 80 million views and over 4.7 likes in less than a single week.
