“FEEL.” is the fifth track from American rapper and songwriter Kendrick Lamar and his third studio album “DAMN.” The jazz rap song was received with widespread praise, earning a Platinum certification in Canada and a Gold certification in the United States.
“FEEL.” sees Kendrick Lamar open up about his feelings around the reality of fame and stardom, drawing on the negatives of being in the public eye. Kendrick is honest about his own shortcomings, noting how he feels no one is checking in on him, but continues to isolate himself from friends and family, as well as boasting about his achievements in music, to then admit that the music industry is extremely toxic. Lamar also admits how despite his success in the music world, he still deals with emotional and interpersonal issues which he often explores with his music.
The song also uses a rhetorical device called “anaphora“, which is the repetition of a word or phrase at the beginning of successive clauses. Note how almost all the lyrics have the word “feel” in them, intentionally written in order to stick in the listener’s mind.
There is no official music video or audio upload for “FEEL.” However, a YouTube user by the name of “moodflood” uploaded the audio to the site on the 28th August 2017. As of the 8th September 2021, the video had received over 1.7 million views with 12 thousand likes. On Spotify, the song has over 135 million streams worldwide.
