Seven Wonders

“Seven Wonders” is the second track from British-American rock band Fleetwood Mac and their fourteenth album “Tango in the Night”, which was released in 1987 through Warner Bros.

The pop rock song sees Nicks recall a past lover and their relationship, and the beauty, excitement and pure joy she felt while in it. She states that even if she lives to see all Seven Wonders of the World, the beauty of that romance would still be more great than the Wonders of the World ever could be.

The song was written by Sandy Stewart alongside Lindsey Buckingham and Stevie Nicks, and Stewart had alreadt co-written three tracks for Nick’s solo album “The Wild Heart”.

In the 2014 book by author, broadcaster and musician Zoë Howe titled “Stevie Nicks: Visions, Dreams and Rumours“, Nicks spoke about the lyric changes she made in the song during the demo, as songwriter Sandy Stewart did not give her a lyric sheet before she recorded the song:

“We thought we’d written down exactly as I sing them, the exact words to “Seven Wonders”. The spontaneity of the early take made it truly special. Sandy unfortunately didn’t get me the real words before that, so I sang those words… and then, I saw the real words and I tried to sing the real words, which are in fact very different. I couldn’t do a vocal again like that very first time I walked up to the microphone and sang “Seven Wonders”. There is something in that vocal that is real special, and it’s because I hadn’t really thought about the song much. It was my first time singing “Seven Wonders”, so when you hear it, you know that it was really the first time I was hearing it too.”

The music video for “Seven Wonders” was released in 1987 and was directed by Marty Callner. The group are shown singing the song while a projection of sketches of the seven wonders are shown. The video was uploaded to Fleetwood Mac’s official YouTube channel in October 2007. As of the 18th August 2023, the video had 81.4 million views.

“Seven Wonders” is certified Gold in the UK.
