“WAP” (stands for Wet Ass P***y) is the latest single from American rappers Cardi B and Megan Thee Stallion, which was released on the 7th August 2020. It is a hip-hop song written by Cardi B, Megan Thee Stallion, James Foye III, Austin Owens and Frank Rodriguez; with production done by Austin Owens and James Foye III. The track was released through Atlantic Records.

“WAP” samples American DJ Frank Ski’s 1993 Baltimore club single “Whores in This House”, which also opens the song. The track details how both Cardi B and Stallion wish to sexually pleased. The song was met with mixed reviews, mainly from music critics praising the song for its honest description of female sexuality and describing it in the same way male and male-identifying rappers and artists have been for years – but also met with disgust and a huge amount of sexism. According to British publication the Daily Mail, Cardi B’s label Atlantic Records thought the song was so explicit that Cardi B should create another song with Cardi B to release: “When [the label] heard the song they were like, “We really like it, but that song is so explicit.” … They were like, “Can you please get another record and you could put Megan on it?” And I was like, “No.”

The video was released onto YouTube on the same day as the song, on the 7th August 2020. Directed by infamous music director Colin Tiley, the video shows Megan Thee Stallion and Cardi B in extravagant outfits that match different rooms in a large mansion, dancing along with leopards and snakes. The video also features appearances from celebrity women, such as Kylie Jenner, Normani and Rosalía and many more. The video was filmed during the COVID-19 pandemic, however Cardi B stated that over $100,000 was spent getting COVID-19 testing for everyone on the set. The video managed to get 26 million views in its first day. As of late September 2020, the video has 225.5 million views and 5.4 million likes.
