Story of Song

‘Want to Want Me’ in the first week had the most adds ever, having every radio station in America adding the song the first week, which had never happened before. Jason Derulo talked about his hit with People Now, where he explained that the song is “it’s a love story from a different perspective, you can have everything in the world but it won’t matter if that one person you want doesn’t want you back. So it’s literally talking about how much I want this particular girl and cannot live without that particular girl.” When asked about who that one person who Jason wants to want, he replied it was the fans. Jason also told On Air With Ryan Seacrest, “so I was just in the studio doing me and that’s what came out. The album just had a bunch of songs that made you feel good because I needed to get myself out of the rut that I was in. So I was making music that made me feel good.” He then added: “you got to be over confident.” The 25-year-old divulges of his dating secrets: “you only live one time, so if you see that person you want and then you don’t go for it, then that’s going to be in the back of your mind like, ‘Man, what if? What if? What if?’ So you have to go for it every single time.” According to some reports, ‘Want to Want Me’ was written with reference to his former girlfriend Jordin Sparks.
