Vossi Bop

Album Heavy Is The Head

“Vossi Bop” is the lead single from British rapper Stormzy (real name Michael Omari) and his second studio album “Heavy Is the Head”, which was released on the 13th December 2019. The track was written by Stormzy, Chris Andoh, Dakarai Forbes and Anderson.

“Vossi Bop” was the first track from Stormzy as a lead artist since 2017. In an interview track: “I made the song like three years ago […] and I just went to the studio and I’ve must have seen it [the Vossi Dance] before I was in the studio and just came out. […] It’s such a good song, I just want people to enjoy themselves and style and all of these things man.” Stormzy has also had to clear up the lyrics to some fans on Twitter, with many thinking the line “My bruddas don’t dab, we just Vossi bop”, when it is actually “dab”, and not “die”. The track also blew up on social media due to the lyric: “F*ck the government and f*ck Boris!”, which was a reference to the Conservative party leader and UK party leader, Boris Johnson; Johnson has made many racist remakrs throughout his career. The lyric from “Vossi Bop” also was used by the a political company titled “FCK Boris”, who started to sell merchandise with the lyric and set up protests against the austerity, tragedy and comments made by the Conservative party.

The music video for “Vossi Bop” was released as the same day as the track – 26th April 2019. It was directed by Henry Scholfield, and features Stormzy with friends rapping on Westminster Bridge and outside the Bank of England in London. As of December 2019, the video has over 72.6 million views and almost 1 million likes on YouTube.
