Thot Shit” is the first solo release from American rapper Megan Thee Stallion since the release of her debut album “Good News“, which was released in 2020.

Thot Shit” is Stallion’s response to the word “thot”, (another word for “slut”) in which some men have used in a sexist manner – “Thot Shit” is Stallion reclaiming the word.

Speaking to Genius.com about the song, Stallion spoke about her inspiration for “Thot Shit“:

“The inspiration behind it is… to just like, take ownership of the word. The word “hoe”, the word “thot”. ‘Cause people use it in a bad way! Like ‘Oh, that bitch is a thot, that bitch a hoe!’. Well bitch, yes! I might be doing thot shit, but so what? That’s what I like to do.

So originally, “Thot Shit” was a freestyle. The way I came up with the hook was – it was like a piece of the freestyle that I liked – the “hands on my knees, shakin’ ass, on my thot shit”! I was like, damn! I want to make this into an actual song.

Where was I when I wrote “Thot Shit“? I was mostly in the shower. I write a lot of stuff in the shower! That’s where nobody can bother me, that’s where my mind is the clearest. I wrote a lot of it in the shower.”

The music video was released via Stallion’s YouTube channel on the same day as the single’s release. Directed by Aube Pierre, the video was inspired by the conservative backlash of Stallion’s hit 2020 song “WAP“, and the films “Nightmare on Elm Street” (1984) and “The Shining” (1980). By late July 2021 , the music video had over 20 million views and 674 thousand likes.
