SUGAR

“SUGAR” is the second track from music collective BrOCKHAMPTON and their 2019 album, “GINGER”. “SUGAR” is the group’s most successful track in regards to streaming – with the track being the band’s most streamed song on Spotify. “SUGAR” was written by band members Matthew Champion, Jabrai Manwarring, and Romil Hemnani, with other writers Ciarán McDonald, Dominique Simpson, Ian Simpson and Ryan Beatty. Group members Hemnani and Manwarring are credited for production on the track.

“SUGAR” is a R&B love ballad featuring the vocals of four out of six members of BROCKHAMPTON, with singer Ryan Beatty also offering vocals. Each member of the group discusses topics and love, drug use and the initial feelings of love and lust. Dom McLennon from the group tweeted in August 23 that: “Sugar should be a #1 song.” On the 6th September 2019, the group performed the track live on the Ellen Degeneres Show.

There are 2 versions of the music video for “SUGAR”. The first was released on the 10th December 2019, however featured more explicit and mature scenes; that video currently has 4.2 million views. On the 17th February 2020, the group released another music video, featuring the group members singing the track in front of a mirror that shows the rest of BROCKHAMPTON filming the video. Group member Kevin Abstract is credited for directing the video, and was of April 2020, the video has 7.5 million views, with well over a quarter of a million likes.
