Red Wine Supernova

“Red Wine Supernova” is the second track on American singer-songwriter Chappell Roan and her debut album “The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess”, which released in September 2023.

“Red Wine Supernova” was originally a single released in May 2024 which was later part of Roan’s debut album which released in September of the same year. It is a queer pop song about having a fun and lustful moment with another woman, and the feelings of sexual attraction. Roan describes what she wants to do with and to this girl, with the phrase “red wine supernova”. This phrase could perhaps mean that this quick and intense lust is fueled by red wine, and a supernova is a star that explodes quickly and brightly, which could represent Roan and her temporary lover’s quick but potent experience together.

Speaking to the Brooklyn Vegan, Roan expressed why she wrote “Red Wine Supernova”:

“I needed a campy gay girl song that captured the magic of having feelings for another girl. I packed the song with fun raunchy lyrics that make it feel like a night out flirting with the girl across the bar!”

The music video was released on the 15th June 2023 and was directed by Ramisha Sattar.
