STORY OF SONG
“Movement” is the second track from Irish musician Hozier ‘s(real name Andrew John Hozier-Byrne) highly acclaimed 2019 album “Wasteland, Baby!”.
“Movement” was written solely by Hozier and is an ode to his lover about how they move, using their movement as a way to define and explain his love and admiration for them. Hozier first debuted the track live on September 4th 2018 at a rehearsal show in Dublin, Ireland. In a YouTube video by Hozier discussing the track, he explains his reason for using movement as a main theme for a track: “Rather than write a dance song, it’s much easier to write a song about dancing.
I don’t know if it was enjoyment of stuff like LCD sound system or whatever, maybe just allowing myself to enjoy the idea of movement. That’s kind of where the idea started at least. I wanted to write something that modulates from minor to major.”
The music video for “Movement” was uploaded to Hozier’s YouTube channel on the same day it was officially released – 14th November 2018. It features dancer Sergei Polunin who turns up at an abandoned building, and dances with a lookalike of himself. The video ends with Polunin looking over the top of a building while his lookalike runs behind him aggressively. As of November 2019, the video has over 15.7 million views and almost a quarter of a million likes.
