“Level of Concern” is the latest track from American music duo Twenty One pilots, and was released as a standalone single on the 9th April 2020. The band consists of lead singer Tyler Joseph and drummer Josh Dun, with Joseph both writing and producing “Level of Concern”, with production help from Paul Meany from rock band “Mutemath”.
“Level of Concern” is the band’s first track for 2020, and addresses concerns about the current global pandemic – Covid-19. The song focuses on the effects the pandemic has had on interpersonal relationships and society in general, making references to the current lockdown and quarantine situation. A few days before the track was released, Tyler Joseph took to Twitter to announce the track stating: “always writing, but this one feels like it should just come out now… first song i ever wrote on electric guitar. i think it’s simple but hopeful. i also want a portion of whatever money this song makes to go to this charity i saw called crew nation. it provides funding for people who work in the live music industry who don’t have a job right now.
no one knows when live music will get back on its feet. i’ve met so many amazing people working venues and touring with bands. hopefully we can do something to help some through this song.”
The music video was released the same day as the track (9th April 2020) and was uploaded to the official Twenty One pilots YouTube channel. Directed by Reel Bear Media, the music video somewhat documents the creation of “Level of Concern”, while featuring appearances from Tyler Joseph, his wife Jenna and his daughter Rosie, as well as Josh Dun and his fiancée Debby Ryan. They are all shown in different shots helping film the track from home and decorating their house with glow in the dark stars.
In a little over 2 weeks, the video has gathered over 18.3 million views and 1.1 million likes.
