“Kill This Love” is the 2019 single from South Korean girl group BLACKPINK. Written and produced by American-Korean rapper, producer and songwriter Teddy Park, with production credits also going to R.Tee, 24 and Bekuh Boom. It is sixth track from their second album of the same name.
“Kill This Love” is an electropop and k-pop song released in April 2019 through YG and Interscope Records. The song is sung in both Korean and English, and features prominent horns throughout the track. Lyrically, the song details all members’ decision to end toxic romantic relationships, and to stand your ground and understand your worth, and to ultimately “kill” any love that is not positive.
The music video for “Kill This Love” was released via BLACKPINK’s YouTube channel on the 4th April 2019. Directed by Seo Hyun-Seung, the video shows all group members on a mission to kill a toxic love, with fast cars, various weapons and hunting mechanisms. The video also makes references to Greek mythology, with a cracked statue of Aphrodite (the Greek goddess of love) in the background of some shots, acting as a metaphor for broken love. “Kill This Love” is the fastest-liked video and fasted video ever on YouTube, reaching 1 million likes in only 28 minutes and 56.7 million views in only 24 hours. As of late October 2020, the video has over 1 billion views and 16 million likes.
