“I Love Me” is American singer, songwriter and actress Demi Lovato’s latest single from her upcoming seventh studio album. This is Lovato’s second solo release after taking a break from the music industry for a little over 18 months.
“I Love Me” was written by Lovato, singer Anne-Marie Nicholson, Jennifer Decilveo, Alex Niceforo, Sean Douglas, Keith Sorrells and Warren Felder – with production done by Alex Nice, Sorrells and Felder. The track is a pop self-love anthem, encouraging listeners to love themselves for who they are and without needing a romantic partner. In a recent interview on the Ellen Show, Lovato spoke about the inspiration behind “I Love Me”, and how the track came to her one evening when this phrase kept repeating in her head: “You are completely whole as you are, without anybody, without substances, without this food, without whatever. Like, you are good, girl!”
The music video for the track was released on the same day as the song – the 6th March 2020. Directed by Hannah Lux Davis, the video features different versions of Lovato fighting one another, with references to various moments and snippets of Lovato’s life – one example being a group of teenagers that look eerily similar to her and the Jonas Brothers. On Instagram, Demi explained how important the video was to her in a post: “This video was so special to me.. @hannahluxdavis absolutely killed this. It was important for me to add special easter eggs that represent certain times and chapters in my life. This one by far was the most emotional for me to shoot. Thank you to everyone who’s stuck by my side and waited patiently for my return. We’re back, and we’re stronger than ever ❤️ #ILoveMe”. In less than one week, the video has gathered 14.6 million views and over 1 million likes.
