“Fair” is the second single from American singer and dancer Normani and her upcoming debut studio album, which is due to be released later this year through RCA Records.
“Fair” is a slow R&B track that sees Normani stray from her usual upbeat musical collaborations – such as “Dancing With A Stranger” with Sam Smith (2020) or “Wild Side” with Cardi B (2021), where the tracks are upbeat and more pop in their sound. “Fair” sees Normani expose her heartbreak and sadness of a past relationship where she has not moved on, but her partner has not: “Is it fair that you moved on? (No fair) / ‘Cause I swear that I haven’t (No, ooh)“.
Normani took to TikTok to explain the track’s meaning to her:
“This song is one that captures me in a super vulnerable moment […] every possible emotion one could feel when experiencing heartbreak. Love is scary as hell especially when it seems like the other person has effortlessly moved on and you just can’t seem to, no matter how hard you try. My heart was also going through it like many of yours have.”
The official audio video for “Fair” premiered on Normani’s YouTube channel on the 18th March 2022. As of the 22nd April 2022, the video had over 748 thousand views and over 40 thousand likes.
