Easier

“Easier” is the lead single from Australian boy band 5 Seconds of Summer (5SOS) and their upcoming fourth studio album “Calm”, which is due to be released this Friday, the 27th March 2020.

The songwriting credits for “Easier” feature singer and songwriter Charlie Puth, as well as singer Ryan Tedder, with Louis Bell, Ali Tamposi and Andrew Watt. Production was also done by Puth, Bell and Watt, and is a new sound for 5SOS. “Rolling Stone” described the track as “dark”, and noted that inspiration could have come from 80’s and 90’s bands such as Depeche Mode and Nine Inch Nails. In terms of the story, “Easier” details a toxic relationship, and not knowing whether to leave or stay, since there are both good and bad times.

The music video was released on the same day as the song, on the 23rd May 2019. Directed by Grant Singer, it features members of 5SOS in an underwater cave chained to the ceiling but also singing along. They are shown submerged in red-lit water while trying to escape the cave, as well as a shot of a woman who seems to be keeping them there. As of late March 2020, the video has 45 million views and 862 thousand likes.
