“COMPLETE MESS” is the lead single from 5 Seconds of Summer’s fifth album: “5SOS5”. The single was released on the 2nd March 2022 through BMG, and the album on the 23rd September 2022.

The song was written and produced by the lead guitarist of the group Michael Clifford and sees the group detail a relationship that makes them feel complete, but a complete mess without their other half. The band wrote the song in Joshua Tree, isolated and away from the city to simply create. Speaking to extratv, the group explained what the song meant to them:

“It all came together so quickly, to be honest. Initially, it was about a romantic relationship and that simple, universal feeling of feeling a complete mess without someone, but feeling complete with them.”

The music video was uploaded on the 2nd March 2022 via 5 Seconds of Summer’s YouTube channel. The video was directed by Lauren Dunn, and as of the 4th October 2022 it had a total of 9.3 million views.
