“Cooped Up” is the second track from American rapper Post Malone’s fourth studio album “Twelve Carat Toothache”. The pop-rap song features American rapper Roddy Ricch, who previously worked with Post Malone on his 2018 hit “Wow.”
Released on the 12th May 2022, and sees Post Malone detail his return back to life and being in the spotlight. Perhaps referencing the Covid-19 lockdown with the phrase “cooped up” Malone also discusses his intense partying ways. In Roddy Ricch’s verse, Ricch references how Post Malone took him on his first tour, as well as his finances and general change of lifestyle due to his fame. Post Malone spoke to Apple Music, revealing his love for producer Louis Bell as well as Ricch while creating the track:
“The genius notes are definitely Louis Bell. I think I did a kick drum and a clap and that’s about it. It’s still co-producing, very much so. […] We were in EF in L.A. and we maybe had finished it in Malibu but the lyrics just came so quickly […] Roddy is such an incredible man and just a natural performer and vocalist and lyricist and like, he just gets fucking after it, and it’s so cool.”
The music video for “Cooped Up” was released on the 18th May 2022 via Post Malone’s YouTube channel. Directed by Andre Bato, the video shows both rappers on a set designed to look like an apartment. As of the 16th June 2022, the video had a total of 15.4 million views.
