Premiered live by the 2010 X Factor Finalists, this cover version of David Bowie’s 1977 hit single was to aid the armed forces charity Help for Heroes. Amongst over 20 cover versions of this song, The X Factor’s version was the only hit aside from Bowie’s. The 16 finalists who performed the song were Matt Cardle, Nicolo Festa, Aiden Grimshaw, Paije Richardson, Treyc Cohen, Rebecca Ferguson, Cher Lloyd, Katie Waissel, John Adeleye, Mary Byrne, Storm Lee, Wagner, Belle Amie, Diva Fever, F.Y.D, and One Direction.

    The use of quotation marks around the title meant that Bowie felt there was something ironic about being a rock ‘n’ roll hero to his fans, while he kept his own emotional life as far distant and remote and private as possible.

    I will always remember David Bowie’s performance of the song Heroes at Band Aid in 1985. One of the. Best live moments ever
