Tulisa said that her first solo single had to have this upbeat dance-pop to it. In an interview with The Guardian, she explained: “Lyrically, musically, it had to be like boom! Here I am, do you know what I mean? And the music had to represent me. So even though it’s got that urban edge, it’s got an Ibiza edge too, because I’m an Ibiza baby.”

‘Young’ achieved success in the UK and topped the Official Charts  Company and was certified Gold by the British Phonographic Industry (BPI). In Ireland, the song peaked at number 5 and in Belgium it reached number 53. The song did not enter the US charts.
