You?

“You?” was released as a single from Two Feet (real name Zachary William Dess) and his 2020 album “Pink”, which was released last month, in March 2020. “You?” was written, produced and mixed by Two Feet himself, as with all his tracks. “You?” is a blues-infused heavy guitar love ballad, with Two Feet questioning whether his ex-lover needed him, or if he needed them.

Genius.com spoke to Two Feet back in October 2019 after the release of “You?”, and this is what he had to say:

Genius: How did you get your start in music?

Two Feet: I was playing music since I was a little kid. at the time, I was really into Gary Clark Jr, some of The Black Keys, I was listening to Wes Montgomery a lot, Chet Baker. And then electronic world, Flume, I liked a lot. Then, I was producing for a lot of people. I was playing in several bands up in Harlem, and I just decided to record my own voice on my own song for the first time. And that happened to be the one that took off more than anything else I had made at that point, so it’s how it started.

G: How did the song come about?

TF: I was in LA at the time recording a completely different song and that song sort of just fell through the cracks. It happens, and I was really frustrated. So, I went out into the parking lot and just started humming melodies to myself. The chords came in place around that time too, and I just went back in and super quickly laid down a framework of the song. It started getting going that way. I produced everything myself. So, my vision for this song was I really wanted to get a song that had the drop of one of my songs, “Go Fuck Yourself”, because it’s so much fun live. And I wanted to have a buildup similar to one of my other songs, I feel Like I’m Drowning, because I’ve always been a fan of silky-smooth guitar intros. So, I just wanted to combine the production of both songs for this one.

G: How did you come up with the title?

TF: The drop to the song, it just felt like when I sang it, when I was singing the lyric right before the hook came in, that it felt more like a question than a statement. You know what I mean? And it’s also kind of the lyrics are sort of ambiguous of who I’m talking about. Am I actually talking about somebody else or am I talking about myself?

The music video for “You?” was released on the 17th October 2019 and was directed by Johannes Lovund. The video features Two Feet in a warehouse style room, surrounded by dancers dressed in a full glitter bodysuit with their faces covered, while Two Feet plays the guitar solos behind them. As of early April 2020, the video has almost 5.8 million views on YouTube with 118 thousand likes.
