“You should be sad” is the fourth track from American pop artist Halsey (real name Ashley Frangipane) and her third studio album “Manic”, which was released on the 17th January 2020.
“You should be sad” was written by Halsey and Greg Kurstin, with Kurstin producing the track. The track is a mix of country and pop, and is a break-up track where Halsey discusses a previous relationship that she is glad she left. Halsey tweeted about the track on the day of its release: “The most petty and heartbreaking songs all come from country. I wrote YSBS on my living room floor on my guitar. Lots of time in Nashville too”.
The music video for “You should be sad” was released alongside the track, on the 10th January 2020. It features Halsey going to an underground country nightclub, where many other party-goers are dancing. The video also makes many references to women singers such as Shania Twain, Lady GaGa, Carrie Underwood and Christina Aguilera. As of the end of January 2020, the video has over 18.5 million views and 675 thousand likes.
