In the UK, this song became the second chart topper for Tempah, and the British Phonographic Industry (BPI) certified it Platinum for sales over 600.000 copies. In the US, it peaked at number 12 on the Billboard Hot 100. The Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) certified it Platinum for sales over 1 million copies. The song also topped the charts in Ireland and Scotland. Elsewhere, it reached the top 10 charts in Belgium, the Czech Republic, Finland, Norway, Romania, and Sweden. ‘Written in the Stars’ was certified Platinum in Australia, Canada, and Sweden. In Norway, it was certified 10 times Platinum.
