“Why” is the second track on the soundtrack album for the 1982 film “Soup for One”, written by Nile Rodgers and Bernard Edwards from infamous disco group CHIC, who also produced all the tracks on the soundtrack. Sadly, the movie wasn’t extremely successful – but the soundtrack performed extremely well.
“Why” is a disco-funk reggae fusion track, with Simon singing to her lover, questioning why their love hurts her so much. The track is inspired by the “Soup for One” film.
The music video for “Why” was released in 1982, but uploaded to YouTube on Simon’s channel in November 2013. The video features Simon singing the track to the camera, with interchanging shots of Simon talking to men at tables. As of mid-July, the video has 3.3 million views and 18 thousand likes.
