“Unholy” is the 2022 single from British singer-songwriter Sam Smith and German singer Kim Petras, and is the lead single from Smith’s upcoming fourth studio album. The track is also the first collaboration between the two artists.

Throughout the summer of 2022, Smith released snippets of “Unholy” via TikTok, showing videos of them singing and dancing to the chorus with Petras, leading to the snippet going viral on the app. The song marks a new sound for Smith, a dive into the hyperpop genre whilst still carrying on with themes of betrayal, infidelity and heartbreak; recurring themes for Smith and their music.

In August 2022, Smith spoke to Rolling Stone Magazine, and stated that they were ready for a new era of music, feeling well out of their heartbroken stage of life.

The official music video for “Unholy” was uploaded to Smith’s YouTube channel on the 30th September 2022. Directed by Floria Sigismondi, the video had over 4.6 million views in only 4 days.
