“Underneath the Tree” is the 2013 single by American singer Kelly Clarkson and appears on her sixth (and first Christmas album) studio album “Wrapped in Red”, which was released through RCA Records in November 2013. The track was written by Kelly Clarkson & Greg Kurstin, with Kurstin in charge of production.
“Underneath the Tree” is a Christmas pop song that lyrically discusses the trivialities of material items, when all is needed for Christmas is love and company. Clarkson began writing the song after finishing her “Greatest Hits – Chapter One” album in 2012, and began discussing plans to release a Christmas album with RCA. Clarkson approached Kurstin, whom she had previously worked with, and proceeded to write “Underneath the Tree” and “4 Carats”.
The music video was directed by English director Hamish Hamilton, and shows Clarkson performing the song live from her TV special “Kelly Clarkson’s Cautionary Christmas Music Tale”, at The Venetian in Las Vegas in 2013. As of mid-December 2020, the video has 22.4 million views and over 101 thousand likes.
