“Toast” is the 2018 standout reggae track from. Jamaican reggae singer Koffee (Mikayla Simpson) and her “Rapture” EP, which was released in March 2019 through Promised Land and Columbia Records. The track was written by Koffee along with Izybeats and Walshy Fire producing the track.
Speaking to Billboard.com about the track back in July 2019, “Toast” was written by Koffee when visiting Haiti in 2018, where she was reflecting on her growing success as a singer:
“”I was in the fourth grade when the earthquake hit Haiti (in 2010) and hearing about the devastation was very powerful for us as children. Visiting Haiti years later was surreal for me; I was thinking about how far I have come in music, was feeling very grateful and just giving thanks,” she continued. “So ‘Toast’ speaks about the moment in high school when my life changed when I started writing lyrics; the passion that I wrote the song with is what’s translating to other people.”
The music video for “Toast” was directed by Xavier Damase and was uploaded to Koffee’s YouTube channel on the 16th November 2018. The video shows Koffee singing with friends, cycling around and relaxing. As of late May 2021, the video has over
