Story of Song
Gabrielle recorded this cover in one take and just a day before the deadline. In an interview with the “Official Charts” Gabi told the story behind her cover version: “’The Power of Love’ cover came about very randomly. The agency of the ad it was used for asked loads of girls to cover it, and I wasn’t actually asked at first. Two days before the deadline, they sent a text to my manager that night ‘Gabrielle can have a go if she wants’. But the deadline was Monday at 9 am and at this point it was Saturday night. So, the next day I went in and recorded it in one take and went off to a gig then came home and then the next morning, they chose it!”
Frankie Goes To Hollywood gave their thumbs up for Gabi’s version: “I was worried people might hate me because they were so attached to the original single. But I’ve since been in touch with, lead singer, Holly Johnson, and he said some lovely things about my take on his song.”
