Story of Song
‘The Climb’ is a power ballad originally released by Miley Cyrus for the soundtrack to Hanna Montana: The Movie. The song was chosen by The X Factor producer Simon Cowell to be recorded by McElderry as his final performance in the competition. The song was officially released after McElderry won as his first single from the debut album ‘Wide Awake’. McElderry explained that the lyrics meant a lot to him: “It’s an emotional song because it’s what’s been happening in the last few months. It all feels very, very surreal.”
