Take Your Mama

Scissor Sisters

Album Scissor Sisters

“Take Your Mama” is the second track from American glam rock band the “Scissor Sisters” and their self-titled debut album, which was released in 2004. The track was written by Scissor Sisters members Babydaddy (Scott Hoffman) and Jake Shears, with production done by the group as a whole, featuring band member Ana Matronic.

“Take Your Mama” was written in Jake Shears’ parent’s horse farm in West Virginia in the US, and was inspired by Shears’ experience of him coming out to his mother. The Scissor Sisters’ self-titled album helped in creating a space through music in the early 2000’s for those who identify as LGBTQI+, and allowing them to have a space in mainstream culture that they were so isolated and pushed away from. The track details a young gay man showing their mother the gay nightlife and community and attempt to bond with their mother again after coming out.

The music video for the track was uploaded to the Scissor Sisters’ YouTube channel on the 23rd February 2010. The music video features the group in a variety of scenes that change, from a desert to a farm, to outer space and a deserted wood. As of the end of March 2020, the video has 7.3 million views and 32 thousand likes.
