“RAPSTAR” is a pop-rap song released by American rapper Polo G and his upcoming third studio album “Hall of Fame”, which is due to be released this year. “RAPSTAR” was written by Polo G, Einer Bankz and Alexander Wu, with Bankz and Synco in charge of production. The song was released on the 9th April 2021 through Columbia Records.

“RAPSTAR” sees Polo G rap about his relationship, fame, wealth and emotions over a rap beat featuring a ukulele. “RAPSTAR” marks Polo G’s first number one hit on the US Billboard Hot 100 chart. In a YouTube video with YouTuber ZIAS!, Polo G reacts to the music video and touches on the inspiration behind the song:

“As far as inspiration, I had, like, the verse for [“RAPSTAR”] for a lil’ minute. And I kept on, like, I gotta hop in my recording processes. I try to add a verse to plenty of different beats to see what stick, like, what sound the hardest. The day I had got up with Einer, […] I feel like the hook was hard so I’m like, “Let’s just do this,” and he just got to freestylin’ with the ukulele and I got to spittin’ that shit. After that, I just did it just to put it out just for extra lil’ content on my page. Then that shit turned into everybody askin’ me for that all the time. Then I seen it was goin’ crazy on TikTok. It had like forty thousand videos, I’m like, “Shit, that was one.” And then I seen it on YouTube, it had two million views with the beat put over it, somebody put a beat over it. Then it was, like, five million on the Einer video so I’m like, “Man, that’s like a song. I gotta do this.”

The music video was released to Polo G’s YouTube channel on the 9th April 2021. Directed by Arrad, the video shows different aspects of Polo G’s life, from fatherhood to fame, to luxury and also his roots back in Chicago. As of mid-May 2021, the video has over 65.2 million views and over 1.4 million likes.
