Story of Song

In an interview with completemusicupdate.com, the Nero duo talked about their songwriting process: “It’s different on different tracks, sometimes we start off with a vocal and melody and build a track around that, or other times we write a track, then strip it back and write the lyrics. Vocals are important to us when creating a song, as we feel it adds a new dimension.”

Spoonfed.co.uk also talked to the duo and asked them why they keep featuring the same female singer on most of their tracks. Joe Ray from Nero duo replied: “She was a friend from way back. We were trying to find a vocal and she ended up coming into our studio at the time, bedroom, and vocal booth, microphone strapped to a bongo drum, and what came out worked really well. It’s important for us to have a continuous sound and Alana helps us do that.”

In the UK, ‘Promises’ topped the Official Charts Company and the UK Dance charts. In the US it peaked at number 70 on the Billboard Hot 100. In Australia, it peaked at number 33 and was certified Gold by the Australian Recording Industry Association (ARIA). ‘Promises’ topped the charts in Scotland and peaked at number 7 in Belgium. In New Zealand it was certified Gold.
