Music Sounds Better With You

“Music Sounds Better With You” is the only song to be released by French house group Stardust, released in July 1998. The group consisted of Thomas Bangalter from infamous disco duo Daft Punk, DJ Alan Braxe and vocalist Benjamin Diamond. The song was writte by all members of the group, as well as Dominic Bugatti and Frank Musker, with Bangalter also in charge of production. The group disbanded after the song’s release and went back to their own careers as separate artists.

“Music Sounds Better With You” is a late 90’s French house staple. The track was built from the 1981 track “Fate” from Chaka Khan. In an interview with Billboard in June 2018, Alan Braxe spoke about the track and its lyrics (which repeat itself over and over): “We were very happy because we felt like we achieved something original and quite new in its form… It dind’t take a long time for people to understand the structure of the track and start to dance on it, but the very first listen the reaction was, ‘What is it?’”.

The music video for “Music Sounds Better With You” was directed by Michael Gondry, and shows a young boy playing and building a model airplane while Stardust plays on the television. The video ends with the young boy flying his model airplane in a large field, and the members of Stardust catch the plane, sending it back to the boy. The video was uploaded to YouTube in June 2019, and currently has 23.7 million views.
