“messy in heaven” is Chatham-Kent based singer venbee’s second single, and first time time working with producer goddard. Released on the 23rd September 2022 through Sony, the track went viral on TikTok and then reached mainstream charts.
The drum and bass song sees venbee recount a dream she had about Jesus, whom she claimed was looking intoxicated. The song went viral on TikTok, but also drew a lot of critiscm for it’s use of religious figures in non-traditional settings and also being associated with class A drugs. Speaking to Re-Edition in January 2023, venbee reinforced her statement that the track was intended to be an “anti-drug anthem”, rather than the opposite.
The music video was released on venbee’s official YouTube channel on the 23rd September 2022. As of the 17th January 2023, the video had 4.3 million views.
“messy in heaven” is certified Gold in New Zealand and Silver in the UK.
