“Messy” is the 2024 standout hit from English singer and songwriter Lola Young. It was released as the sixth single from her second album “This Wasn’t Mean For You Anyway” through Island Records.

“Messy” is a pop rock song that sees Young discuss how she will never be deemed as perfect to her partner – she is either too messy or too clean, or too quiet or too loud. In an interview with Metal Magazine, Young revealed the song’s inspiration:

“‘Messy’ is an ADHD anthem, it really showcases everything I felt during my last relationship, but also it is deeper than that, as it talks about how I feel about myself in general — being too messy one day and too clean another, struggling to find that balance in myself.^“

The song went viral on TikTok, earning Young over 100 million streams on Spotify. Her success lead to her collaborating with popular rapper Tyler, The Creator in 2024.

“Messy” is certified Silver in the UK and Gold in the US.
