MAMACITA

“MAMACITA” is a single from American group Black Eyed Peas and Puerto Rican singer Ozuna and the group’s eighth studio album “Translation”. Filipina singer J Rey Soul who has been a part of the Black Eyed Peas group since 2018 is also credited as a lead artist on the song. The track was written by : Allan Pineda, Bruce Gaitsch, Juan Rosado, Madonna Ciccone, Patrick Leonard, Susan Leonard, William Adams and Yonatan “Johnny” Goldstein, with Goldstein and will.i.am also producing the song.

“MAMACITA” samples Madonna’s hit track “La Isla Bonita”, and is a Latin pop song sung in both Spanish and English, discussing the term “mamacita” to describe an attractive woman. In an interview with Variety Magazine, Goldstein spoke about the process of working on “MAMACITA”, and how he met will.iam at a writing camp in the winter of 2017. “I texted Will to see if he wanted to meet up while I was in L.A. last October, and then suddenly I came to his studio [to start working], and since then, we just started to work together on music almost non-stop… We started that one [“MAMACITA”] because Will had this idea to use Madonna’s ‘La Isla Bonita’ in a song. So, I started a beat with this progression, then he wrote the hook and his parts, and then we did some back and forth with the beat like we always do….which means just hours of Facetime in order to make the production minimal, but super unique.”

The music video was released on YouTube on the 10th April 2020, alongside “MAMACITA”. Directed by infamous director “Director X”, the video shows a large blue mansion, where all singers sing inside the seemingly deserted house. The video also features a choreographed dance, as well as shots of inside of the house. As of mid-August 2020, the video has 164.2 million views and 1.1 million likes.
