Madeline

Lily Allen

Album West End Girl

“Madeline” is the fifth track from Lily Allen‘s fifth album “West End Girl”, which was released in October 2025 through BMG. The album marks Allen’s return to music after seven years.

“Madeline” is country infused pop track that sees Allen confronting Madeline, the woman she believes her husband is having an affair with. Throughout the track, Allen lists the rules that her and her ex-husband agreed upon when deciding to have an open marriage: “we had an arrangement / be discreet and don’t be blatant / there had to be payment”. However, Madeline is not a stranger, but is implied to be a reoccurring figure in Allen’s husband’s life. Allen mocks Madeline in the song, taking on an American accent that is akin to the “valley girl” stereotype. In this voice, Allen reads out what the listeners are assuming to be texts from Madeline, where she shows very surface-level remorse for her affair with Allen’s husband.

Lily Allen previously mentions Madeline in her song “Tennis”, threading a theme of the Madeline character throughout the album.
