Love Shack

The B-52’s

Album Cosmic Thing

Love Shack” is the legendary single from American new wave group The B-52’s and their 1989 album “Cosmic Thing“, and was produced by renowned musician, record producer and songwriter Don Was.

“Love Shack” is considered to be the group’s signature song and a concert staple, with its pop-rock sound and genius lyrics. Group member Kate Pierson spoke to VH1 about the song, stating that it was “kind of in our imagination, the Love Shack”. The song also was a tribute to The B-52’s original guitarist Ricky Wilson, who sadly passed away of AIDS. The real Love Shack was a cabin in Athens, Georgia, and burned down in 2004.

The music video was directed by American film director, music video deirector and television director Adam Bernstein. The video was shot at the home and studio of ceramic artists Philip Maberry and Scott Walker in Highland, New York, where the group dance and drink alcohol at a “love shack”. The video features a cameo from infamous drag queen RuPaul, in his pre-fame days. Uploaded to YouTube via music user RHINO in December 2013, as of late October 2021, the video has over 52.1 million views.
