“Left and Right” is the third single from American singer-songwriter Charlie Puth and his upcoming third studio album titled “Charlie”. The track features Jungkook, a member of globally famous South Korean boy band BTS.
The upbeat pop song is the first collaboration between both artists, but is not the first time they’ve worked together. Both Puth and Jungkook performed Puth’s 2016 hit “We Don’t Talk Anymore” live at the Genie Music Awards in the same year.
Thematically, the song sees both Puth and Jungkook yearn over an ex-lover and complain about their memories with said lover following them everywhere. Puth spoke on the Elvis Duran Show about the song’s meaning:
“It’s about me singing about the inside of my brain, how these memories will haunt me from the left side of my brain to the right side of my brain…”
Jungkook has previously stated his love for Puth and his music, even covering Puth’s hit “We Don’t Talk Anymore” which attracted Puth’s attention.
The music video for “Left and Right” was released via Charlie Puth’s YouTube channel on the 24th June 2022. Directed by Drew Kirsch, the video shows both Puth and Jungkook dressed in various outfits while visiting a man deemed to be “The Love Doctor”. As of the 19th July 2022, the video had a total of 116 million views.
