“I’m Not Your Mother, I’m Not Your Bitch” is the sixth track from Australian singer-songwriter Courtney Barnett and her second studio album “Tell Me How You Really Feel”, released in May 2018. Written by Barnett, “I’m Not Your Mother, I’m Not Your Bitch” is an alternative rock song about a woman’s place being more than a mother and a sexual object/ lover. The track was also produced by Barnett, alongside Burke Reid and Dan Luscombe.
Speaking to “The Line of Best Fit”, Barnett opened up about the true meaning and intention behind the track: “I’ve noticed everyone assumes it’s about men, which is fine, but that song is actually just general. On reflection, it definitely sounds male-targeted, but it’s broader than that. It’s flexible. There is no wrong or right, except that it’s not exactly what I meant. Everyone’s open to taking it in a different way because you relate it to your own life.”
There is no official music video for the song, however a YouTube topic page for Courtney Barnett uploaded the song to their channel in March 2019. As of late July 2020, the video has 5,908 views.
