I Promised Myself

Album

“I Promised Myself” is a 1990 track from the late Nick Kamen, an English singer, songwriter and model. “I Promised Myself” appeared on his 1990 album “Move Until We Fly”. The synth-pop track was written by Kamen with production by Mike Paxman and Paul Muggleton.

“I Promised Myself” was released as a single twice, originally from his album and then in 2004 by A-Teens. In 2009, the song was covered by the Eurodance artist Basshunter and became a hit. The song’s subject is about the pining of a lover and how Kamen will wait for them and wishes only the best for them.

The music video for “I Promised Myself” shows Kamen in a dark room playing guitar, interloped with different shots of Kamen singing the track. A YouTube user by the name of “DgeFalleneEngel” uploaded the video to the site in August 2012, and as of mid-May 2021, the video has over 9.1 million views.

Sadly, Nick Kamen passed away earlier this month on the 4th May 2021 aged 59 after a long battle with bone marrow cancer. Madonna paid tribute to Kamen on Instagram after his death, stating: “You were always such a kind, sweet human and you suffered too much.”
