I AM WOMAN

Emmy Meli

Album I AM WOMAN (Single)

I AM WOMAN” is the standout single from up and coming 22-year-old singer American singer-songwriter Emmy Meli. Released in November 2021, the song has become a viral hit for Meli – both online and offline.

The powerful ballad about female empowerment and self-love as a woman first went viral on video sharing app TikTok, with Meli using the platform to share her songs and musical work. A month after its release, Meli was surprised by the song’s success and made a video on TikTok explaining that she wrote the song for her younger self:

One month ago, I wrote a song for this little girl. Hoping to make her proud, she ended up inspiring millions of women.”

Lyrically, Meli uses juxtapositions to emphasise a woman’s ability to be multifaceted and diverse – especially outside the restrictions and stereotypes of the patriarchal society that still (tries) to dictate the do’s and don’ts of being a woman.

An official performance video for “I AM WOMAN” was uploaded to Meli’s YouTube channel on the 20th January 2022, and shows Meli performing the song live. As of late February 2022, the video had a total of 1.1 million views and 28 thousand likes.

The track is certified Gold in New Zealand.
