“Forget Me” 2022 lead single from Scottish singer and songwriter Lewis Capaldi and his upcoming second studio album, which will be released through Vertigo and Universal Records. “Forget Me” marks Capaldi’s first release since 2019.
The upbeat 80’s-synth ballad sees Capaldi exclaim to an ex-lover that he cannot get over them, and wishes that they are just regretting him, rather than forgetting him and their relationship. In an open letter that Capaldi released alongside the track, he expressed the nerves he felt in releasing a song after his hiatus:
“I’m back. My new single is called “Forget Me”, and let’s just be honest here, lyrically it covers a lot of the same ground as before. I meet lady, lady leaves me, I whine about it in a pop song. Textbook. […] this new one is sad AND fast, much like my love making […] All joking aside, I’m really excited to be back […] I’m absolutely shitting it too, so it will be interesting to see how it all pans out this time.”
The music video was uploaded to Capaldi’s official YouTube channel on the same day as the song’s release. Directed by Louis Bhose, the video pays tribute to Wham!’s iconic “Club Tropicana” video. In one week, the video had a total of 4.1 million views.
