“Emo Girl” is the second single from American rapper, singer and musician Machine Gun Kelly’s upcoming sixth studio album, and features American musician and singer WILLOW.
The pop punk song was produced by Travis Barker, the drummer for iconic rock band Blink 182. “emo girl” is a modern pop-punk track that sees both Machine Gun Kelly describe a girl who follows emo-style and who they are both in love with. Machine Gun Kelly had revealed how both him and Barker had pre-written a verse for WILLOW, however allowed her to re-write her verse so it could remain authentic to her. Speaking to Rolling Stone in October 2021 before the song’s release, WILLOW emphasised how grateful she was to Barker for allowing her to rewrite her section of the track:
” […] Honestly, to be a Black woman and be able to come on that song and write my verse with my outlook on life — just being able to be authentically me on that song — those are the kinds of things that are going to make more people feel seen. That’s the most beautiful part of music.”

The song has gained a lot of attention on TikTok, with most users spoofing the song and using it as satire.
The music video for “emo girl” was released on Machine Gun Kelly’s YouTube channel on the 9th February 2022. Directed by Drew Kirsh, the video shows young children attending a museum where both WILLOW and Machine Gun Kelly are performing the track in various locations in the song, while showing emo girls dancing and singing along. By the 18th March 2022, the video had a total of 7.9 million views and 196 thousand likes.
