Jessie J was asked whether she’d played the game of dominoes recently. She replied: “I don’t know, but I do have some in my house someplace. But it’s [the song] about knocking someone down with love, not the actual game! Jessie explained that the primary influence for this song was Whitney Houston’s 1987 hit ‘I Wanna Dance With Somebody’. She told MTV News: “People have heard ‘Domino’ and said, ‘It’s nothing like you.’ But I’m like, ‘Well, the album’s really eclectic anyway, and I never go into the studio and say, ‘I wanna do another song that’s like Price Tag or another song like Do It Like a Dude. I listened to a lot of Whitney Houston and Prince, and we kinda just wanted to write a song that’s timeless, that’s fun and uplifting.”

The Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) certified it Double Platinum for sales over 2.7 million copies. In the UK, the song became Jessie J’s second number 1 hit on the Official Charts Company, and topped the UK Streaming Official Charts Company. The British Phonographic Industry (BPI) certified it Platinum for sales over 749.000 copies. ‘Domino’ reached the top 10 charts in several countries, including Australia, Bulgaria, Canada, Hungary, New Zealand, Poland, Slovakia, and Spain. Jessie J also topped the Irish Charts with this song. In Australia, the Australian Recording Industry Association (ARIA) certified it Quadruple Platinum; in Denmark, Italy, and Switzerland, it was certified Gold.
