“Cold Little Heart” is the opening track from British singer-songwriter Michael Kiwanuka and his second studio album “Love & Hate”, which was released in July 2016 through Polydor & Interscope Records.
The almost 10 minute long, emotional folk rock song sees Kiwanuka discuss heartbreak of one’s own, in terms of identity and a romantic relationship. Speaking to NME, Kiwanuka revealed when he wrote the track and his musical influences for “Cold Little Heart“:
““Cold Little Heart” was the first song I wrote for this album and it helped direct where the music was going. It’s really influenced by classic ‘60s and ’70s British guitar bands like The Who and Pink Floyd, as well as by a lot of soul music, particularly songs like “Walk On By” by Isaac Hayes.”

The music video for “Cold Little Heart” was uploaded to Kiwanuka’s official YouTube channel on the 23rd March 2017, and was directed by David Helman, starring American actor Lakeith Stanfield. Stanfield is shown dancing and driving around in the car, with focus on rain and raindrops. As of December 2021, the video has almost 145 million views with 1 million likes.
