Album Her Loss

“Circo Loco” is the ninth track from Drake and 21 Savage’s collaborative album titled “Her Loss” which was released in November 2022 via OVO and Republic Records.

The track contains a sample of the iconic 2001 French house song “One More Time” from French electronic duo Daft Punk. The track sees both rappers talk about their usual themes: sex, women, and their wealthy lifestyles. However, the song received negative reviews for a few reasons – one being that in the first verse, Drake addresses the shooting of rapper Megan Thee Stallion by Canadian rapper Tory Lanez in 2020. He states: “This bitch lie ’bout getting shots, but she still a stallion / She don’t even get the joke, but she still smiling”. This lead to Stallion tweeting her disgust and disappointment in the lack of support and belief women who are abused by men get. Later, in an Instagram live rapper Lil Yatchy (who is credited as a songwriter in the track) denied the song was about the shooting incident, but rather “women lying about their butt shots, saying it’s real when it’s fake”.

Music critics also gave the track negative reviews, with many critics stating it felt as if Drake was making fun of Stallion’s assault/ trying to turn it into a funny issue. The song was also criticised for using the “One More Time” sample, stating that they had ruined the track and had ultimately butchered the track.

The audio video for the song was uploaded to Drake’s official YouTube channel on the 5th November 2022. As of the 29th November, the video had a total of 4.6 million views.
