Chaise Longue

Wet Leg

Album Wet Leg

“Chaise Longue” is the debut single from up and coming British indie punk duo Wet Leg, and was released on the 15th June 2021 through Domino Records. It is the second song from the duo’s self-titled debt album, which was released on the 8th April 2022.

“Chaise Longue” sees Wet Leg uses clever innuendos and pop culture references (such as a line from 2004 film “Mean Girls” to create a catchy, upbeat and unbelievably cool song. “Chaise Longue” was written by group member Rhian Teasdale, according to her when she spoke to Apple Music about the song:

“I was staying over at Hester’s house when we wrote it, and when I stay over, she always makes up the chaise longue for me. It was a song that never really was supposed to see the light of day. So it’s really funny to me that so many people are into it and have connected with it. It’s cool.”

“Chaise Lougue” comes from the French phrase “long chair”, which is an upholstered sofa in the shape of a chair that is long enough to support the legs. Hester Chambers (other half of Wet Leg) revealed to Under the Radar that Teasdale wrote the song on the chaise longue itself:

” kind of inherited it [her grandfather’s chaise lounge] and it now lives in my flat. When Rhian stays over it’s also where she sleeps. She actually wrote all the lyrics to ‘Chaise Longue’ whilst sitting on the chaise longue (all day long).”

The music video for the song was released on the same day as the single via Wet Leg’s YouTube channel on the 15th June 2021. It was released by member Rhian Teasdale, and sees the duo dancing in a field while sitting in front of a house in rocking chairs and rocking horses. As of the 15th May 2022, the video had over 5 million views.
