“It’s the story of a girl who thinks she’s the s—t […] and I’ve slept with her.” According to Williams himself, ‘Candy’ didn’t take much of an effort to write: “Some songs take an age to write and some songs just fall out of your mouth completely formed, and you don’t have to think about it. I don’t know why that fell out of my mouth and out of my brain at that particular time, it just did.”
After Williams read a lot of comments on the video on YouTube and calling it meaningless, he decided to explain the meaning of ‘Candy’ himself on his blog, writing: “The song ‘Candy’ is about a girl called Candice. She’s kinda real kinda not […] Just an observation on girls I’ve seen or been around in LA […] In fact seen or been around all over the world […]”

In the UK, ‘Candy’ topped the UK Singles Charts, becoming Williams’ 14th number 1 song. It was his fastest selling single and became the fastest selling male artist single of 2012. The British Phonographic Industry certified it Platinum for sales over 600.000 copies.
The song topped the charts in Belgium, Croatia, the Netherlands, and Scotland, and made it it to the top 10 charts in several countries including Austria, Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, Germany, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Lebanon, Luxembourg, Mexico, Norway, Slovakia, Sweden, and Switzerland. It was certified Double Platinum in Italy, and Gold in Austria, Germany, and Switzerland.
