Better

“Better” is first collaboration between English songwriter and producer SG Lewis (real name Samuel Lewis) and American musician and songwriter Clairo (Claire Cottrill). Written by Lewis and Clairo with Pomo and Danny McKinnon, “Better” is an electronic pop track about finally meeting the right person and wanting yourself and life to be better for them.

“Better” is Clairo’s first try at a more pop-like track, as her music falls into the alternative and indie category. In an interview with clashmusic.com, Clairo explained how she met SG Lewis and how “Better” came about: “Sam is one of the most talented producers I know. We met the same day that we made this song, and just clicked instantly. ‘Better’ is one of the first real steps I’ve made into ‘pop music’ and this collab feels like a match made in heaven!”

The music video was released on Clairo’s YouTube channel on the 8th August 2018 and was directed by Weird Life Films Production. It features both Clairo and SG Lewis, singing the track in a lit up club, a convertible and a disco ball lit room. The whole video has a 90’s feel to it, due to the fisheye lens the video was filmed with that was very popular in the 1990s, as well as the way Lewis and Clairo are dressed. As of the end March 2020, the video has 2.5 million views and 104 thousand likes.
